Industry Insight: About Chicago Shopping

Have you ever visited the Chicago Shopping site and wondered what is it all about and who is behind it? Well, this week, I’m super excited to announce a series on Chicago Shopping!

I contacted Chicago Shopping several weeks ago and was immediately enamored with everyone I met. Wendy was my initial contact, and she introduced me to the team and even gave me a tour of the offices.

Seriously? This is their view!

Okay, okay, back to the feature. I asked the editorial team several questions to learn a little more about this initiative. Follow along as I share their answers in their words!

1.  What is Chicago Shopping (history, mission, etc.)?

ChicagoShopping.com is an affiliate website of the Chicago Tribune with a dedication to covering the vibrant retail scene here in Chicago. From coverage of local fashion shows, hometown designers and expert advice on where to shop and what to buy, ChicagoShopping.com is a valuable resource for the savvy shopper. The site launched in October 2010 and underwent a full redesign in November 2011. We have also recently incorporated the Chicago Shopping Blogger Network, which includes influential style, fashion, deals and events bloggers.

2.  Who is your targeted audience? How do you impact the community?

We are lucky to have a highly desirable and engaged demographic of professional women living in the city and suburbs of Chicago. We speak directly to our audience because we are our audience. Women who love to read about and shop for fashion, beauty, home items, kids’ stuff and more! We’re also fans of the city we live in and love to share our favorite dining and events recommendations with our readers.

3.  Why should a SmartSavvyStyle reader check out your site?

Like SmartSavvyStyle, Chicago Shopping wants you to look and feel great without having to spend a lot of money or time. In addition to editorial content, our site features exclusive deals with national and local retailers and highlights the city’s best sales, deals and offers, all in one convenient, check-back-daily site!

4.  Tell us about your experts and what they offer.

Our experts are the editors and rock star freelance writers and photographers, as well as our network of in-the-know bloggers. Our site features writing by everyone from an influential dining reporter to a well-known mommy blogger. Our editors and photographers are constantly at the most coveted fashion and design events. Chicago Shopping adds a lifestyle layer to all of the shopping websites and blogs out there.

5.  What are your most popular posts/articles/ads? Why do you think that is?

Readers love our weekly Fashion After Dark and Chicago Street Style features. They show real Chicagoans out and about showing off their individual style. Our audience also eats up our Craigslist Chicago Classics gallery. There are some real gems to be found in there!

You can also find Chicago Shopping on facebook, pinterest, and twitter!

Between the deals, weekly features, and blogger network, Chicago Shopping really has a lot to offer. Have you ever visited Chicago Shopping? What are your favorite posts?

Come back tomorrow to meet the Chicago Shopping team!
