Outfit of the Day: Winter Skirt

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but it’s cold in Chicago! Oh, you hadn’t heard that? Well, let me tell you how cold.

It gets so cold that your ears hurt, that snot pours from your nose and freezes on your face, that your hands cannot bear to clasp anything – not even your treasured smart phone, and that you dream of sandy beaches and sunburns as you drift in and out of consciousness with the wind snapping at your face.

Ok, maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration.

Regardless, it’s cold in Chicago! And now, you know.

Because it gets cold in Chicago, it can be difficult to wear skirts in winter without freezing. Here is a recent example of a winter skirt and how I wore it.

I wore sweater tights underneath and commuted in my big winter boots rather than the booties shown in this pic. I’m pretty sure I also packed leggings to layer over the tights for the commute home. You can never be too careful.

How do you wear skirts in winter?

  1. Love that skirt! Super cute!!!!

Smartwool tights are an essential and totally worth the huge price tag!

  2. Soooooo, since we’ve moved here I’ve thought about putting on a skirt ONCE and quickly thought differently. I’m going to look into April’s suggestion of Smartwool tights though.

    (you look adorable, as usual)

    • haha, it is definitely a challenge to wear skirts in winter here. I usually layer up a lot if I wear one. I’ve been known to wear tights, Cuddl Duds or leggings, wool socks, and boots all at once!

      (thanks) 😉
