Style Tip: Mixing Patterns

Have you ever looked at someone and thought, wow, did her closet throw up on her? (no? hmm, maybe that’s just me.)

Have you ever looked at someone and realized she mixed patterns from her closet flawlessly?

I don’t know about you, but I want to be in category #2! So, this week, we’re going to talk about 3 tips for mixing patterns. These are just a few things that I take into consideration when mixing patterns, and I would love to hear what you think and what advice you have for mixing patterns!

style tip #1: choose patterns with similar colors.

If you aren’t comfortable mixing patterns, take baby steps. Start by choosing patterns with similar colors. This will give you a cohesive look.

If you are an avid reader of my blog, you’ve seen this combination before, but it’s a perfect example of how to mix patterns in a similar color palette. (and if you’re not an avid reader of my blog, what are you waiting for? become one immediately!)

For this look, I combined a brown patterned shirt and a brown patterned scarf. It works because your eyes can focus on the entire outfit rather than the individual patterns or competing colors.
