Blogger of the Month: The Style Files

{E-} F is for Feature!

As you may already know, I’m participating in the A to Z challenge this month. Technically, I’m supposed to post a different letter each day, but I didn’t want to commit to more than 5 days a week, so I’m combining two letters a week. Today, it’s E-F. Now, I know that technically “feature” is an F, but the blog I’m featuring has 3 Es in the title, so I’m pretty sure that counts. Right? Right. So, let’s get started!

Each month, I feature a blogger in this great big blogosphere. I love introducing you to different bloggers and giving you a chance to get to know them. This month, I want to introduce you to…

Valerie from The Style Files Blog

Valerie is a professional gal in her 20s living it up in the Chicago suburbs with her husband and puppy.  Her love for fashion and running manifest themselves in her blog, The Style Files. To help you get to know Valerie a little better, I’ve asked her a series of questions. Her answers are below in italics.

1. How did The Style Files begin?

I had been following great several blogs for a while and thought, “Hey, I think I can do this!” And being a Marketing/PR gal, I also wanted learn the ins and outs of blogging  from a professional standpoint.  So, after meeting with some fellow bloggers and trying to come up with a name (which took me forever!), The Style Files was born.  The blog is an outlet for me to document my personal style—in my closet, home and beyond!

Since October 2012, I’ve been having a ton of fun finding my style!  I mostly blog about my clothing style and sprinkle in posts about home improvements projects, DIY Pinterest creations, workouts/fitness logs and the occasional review or giveaway to keep things interesting!

2. What is your favorite post to date? Why?

I really like my clothing budget posts.  Each month, I come clean with what clothing purchases I’ve made and if I was under/over budget.  It was a New Year’s resolution of mine to create a clothing budget and stick to it, and these monthly posts have been really great in keeping me accountable (and realizing what holes I need to fill in my closet too!)  I also enjoy my weekly workout log posts.  It helps me track my mileage and strength training sessions–I like to try out a lot of workouts I find on Pinterest!

3. What is your most popular post?

My most popular post was on how to winterize a summer dress.  I LOVE to wear skirts and dresses, but living in the suburbs of Chicago, the weather isn’t always ideal.  So I showed how to add accessories like boots, tights, sweaters, jewelry, etc. to create a winterized look to make items in my wardrobe wearable year round!

4. If you had to choose a song to describe your style, what would it be? Why?

What an interesting question!  That’s like asking someone in a job interview, “If you were a kitchen appliance, what would you be and why?”  (I have been asked this question before!  True story.)

Hmmm…well I’d probably pick the song Julie-O, adapted by Kevin Olusola (he beatboxes and is a member of the a capella group Pentatonix, which recently won NBC’s The Sing Off.)  Check out Kevin’s beatboxing cello performance here.

Anyways, being a former orchestra junkie, I have always loved this cello piece since it is so classical and timeless, which I try to emulate in my personal style.  I love classic, timeless outfits with clean lines but also like to throw in pops of color or fun accessories to give it a little pizazz, just like the beatboxing added to Julie-O!

Wow, that was pretty deep haha! (Actually, I’ve just been listening to this song on repeat lately because so it was top of mind as I was answering these questions.)  As for a less nerdy answer, I’d probably say Diamonds by Rihanna or Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis because I LOVE to get a good deal!

 I’m gonna pop some tags…

5. Where do you see your blog in 5 years?

Oh how I would love a crystal ball to see what it would be like!  I do plan to go self-hosted in the next couple of months so that should hopefully open a lot of doors for my blog, which I’m super excited about!  But all I really know is that I truly love blogging about my style and I hope people like you enjoy reading about my journey along the way!
